Common Questions About Vehicle Maintenance

What is maintenance exactly?
Your vehicle consists of hundreds of complex assemblies, all working in tandem. These complex systems require periodic inspections to ensure correct operation. Through hundreds of thousands of miles of testing, the engineers that designed your vehicle have set specific intervals to have these systems inspected.

Compare this to an annual physical examination by your doctor…you may feel fine but have a problem that can get worse if not treated. Maintenance for your vehicle consists of two elements:

1. Replacement of parts such as oil, filters, spark plugs, lubricants, and fluids at specific mileage intervals.

2. Inspecting assemblies such as restraint systems, emission systems, and fuel delivery systems. These inspections are designed to help uncover hidden problems before expensive failure might occur. These inspections are usually specified at specific time intervals.

Is this expensive?
Interestingly, maintenance often costs less than 20 years ago. Many parts have increased mileage replacement intervals, and we no longer perform many services that used to be required. Consider that we no longer have to set the ignition timing, adjust the dwell, adjust the mixture, grind the valves…the list goes on and on of services no longer required on modern vehicles.

Why should I have my maintenance done at Russ Darrow?
For years, dealers offered the best quality service but at higher prices. At Russ Darrow, we’re committed to offering the best value in Wisconsin for all your vehicle’s needs. We’ve developed special pricing on maintenance so you don’t have to compromise quality for a lower price.

We’ve negotiated bulk purchase discounts on oil, filters, spark plugs, brake pads, and other maintenance items and pass the savings on to you. Our ASE certified and factory trained technicians perform this maintenance work in a time-efficient manner that saves you both time and money.

And most important of all…no one knows your vehicle better than the technicians at the Russ Darrow Group. We serviced over one million vehicles since 1965. We never have to learn or experiment on your vehicle!

I’m leasing my vehicle. I don’t have to do maintenance, do I?
Your lease agreement requires that you perform all maintenance indicated in the owner’s manual. The lease company has the right to request maintenance records at the end of the lease; failure to perform maintenance as specified by the manufacturer can result in lease-end fees.

In addition, many customers choose to purchase or trade their vehicle at the end of the lease. A well-maintained vehicle is always worth more.

If I don’t do all my maintenance, will it void my warranty?
Your warranty book gives you specific legal rights. Your warranty can only be voided if your vehicle is declared an insurance loss. However, the manufacturer is not liable for damage or failure of a covered part caused by lack of proper vehicle maintenance. For example, if you fail to change your transmission fluid as prescribed by your owner’s manual, any subsequent failure of the transmission would probably not be covered under warranty. Feel free to consult your warranty book for further information.

We want your ownership experience to be trouble free!

As mentioned above, our maintenance is competitively priced with service facilities that do not offer comparable quality to our service departments. We have developed maintenance menus that will help guide you as to the maintenance needed and the cost so you can plan for the cost of maintenance.

Please feel free to contact any of our dealership personnel for additional information. We look forward to serving you soon!
